theArtRoom at Home
We have curated a selection of project ideas for kids to do at home during the COVID-19 closure.
Please check out the ideas below and we look forward to seeing you back in the studio again soon!
Color Wheel Scavenger Hunt
Send the kids on a scavenger hunt for COLORFUL objects! Start with the primaries (red, yellow and blue) then have them add secondary and tertiary! You’ll find the color wheel says a lot about you!
Masterpiece Coloring Pages
The museums may be temporarily closed but you can still share wonderful art with your kids. Download and print a selection of Fine Art inspired coloring pages here.
Egg Carton Portraits
All you need is an egg carton, scissors and glue! One egg carton will make two faces. Your kids will love creating these, they take on such wonderful personalities!
Draw A Monster
Game time! Roll the dice and draw a Monster!
Fun, easy and creative!
Draw From Your Pantry
Artist Andy Warhol was known for the American Pop Art movement and used everyday objects as subjects. All the kids will need is paper, pencils, markers and of course the packaging from their favorite snack!
Found Object Crayon Rubbings
Here’s a clean and easy art project on texture that will keep the kids busy for a bit! We love searching and finding textures in the studio!
let’s make paintbrushes!
If you have a few clothespins, the kids can make their own paintbrushes. We used what we had in the studio for the brush (tinfoil, q-tips, felt pieces, rubber bands, feathers, etc.). If it makes a mark or texture, it will work! Just add paper, paint and fun! Artist in residence is Bodhi.
Op art Coloring Pages
Calling all designers! Op Art is an art movement that emerged in the 1960s. A style of art that creates the illusion of movement. Download and print a selection of Op Art coloring pages here.
Q-tip pointillism
Paint with dots like Georges Seurat! Ha! Seurat used tiny dots of pure color side by side to build form in his paintings. These tiny dots created optical color blending. All you need is q-tips and paint. Keep it simple, a piece of fruit is perfect for this project. Seurat used the primary colors(red, yellow and blue) but the kids can paint with whatever they have:)
Spring Flowers and Patterns
Save those toilet paper rolls! Just flatten the cardboard roll then cut, fold, design and glue. So much fun to create…unlimited possibilities!
Draw your Pet (or stuffed animal)
We love to draw animals in theArtRoom and you can do that at home! Did you know that Picasso had a dog named Lump? Here’s a drawing he did of Lump. Did you know Frida Kahlo had many pets including a spider monkey? Here’s a self portrait she painted with her monkey Fulang-Chang. Artist Norman Rockwell included many animals in his work. Here is a drawing of Norman and Molly Rockwell and their dog Pitter. You can draw or paint your pet too (stuffed animals allowed)!
Draw with straws
For supplies you’ll need: black paper, white chalk, pastels(or colored chalk) scissors, elmers glue and straws. Have your artist create a simple line drawing using white chalk on the black paper. Measure and cut straws. Glue the straws on top of your drawing. Once the glue is dry, add color pastels!
